There are moments when I wish I was still eating meat and dairy.

I think I have a pretty good outlook on food these days. Making the move to the “other side” – becoming vegetarian and choosing vegan when possible – has been easy and very rewarding both physically and spiritually. But I do occasionally consume animal products, when I decide its “worth it!” One example: for my dad, cooking is an act of love and passion. He never just throws something together with half-ass measures and ingredients. He loves the vegetables, washes them, deliberately and gently cuts them just right; same with meat – you should see the care he takes to a leg of lamb. The point is that if I can be confident that the animals were not forced into cannibalism, shit-eating, and a horrific painful death and that the person creating the food did it with a passion for what tastes good and brings people to the table together – then I can easily stomach it.

I am currently reading an advanced copy of the Julie/Julia Project Book. John brought it home from work – yeah I like it, maybe a lot! The thing is Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking is all about meat, dairy and some veggies to go with it and I am craving it like mad! Even foie gras or eggs.

If you have not heard of the Julie/Julia Project it is a story of a pre-30-year-old-woman who decided to try all 524 of the recipes in MtAoFC (Mastering the Art of French Cooking) in 365 days.

Anyway, I might be telling stories of some of these French delicacies while we stay with my dad next week. (I think I’m looking forward to it – Stacy, forgive me. I will write what I truly believe about food and humanity and spirituality.)
